The Human Project: A Global Conversation Starter
The Human Project, the brainchild of Erika Ilves and Anna Stillwell, who are currently based in Dubai, is working to bring about an understanding of all of the challenges that affect all of us, all in one place, so that we can take a step back and “take a look at ourselves,” as one species.
To this end, the project is developing a free app, first for the iPad and then for all platforms, with the aim of supporting a global conversation about the future of our species.
The framework and content that will appear in the app, currently in the start-up funding stage at a crowd-funding platform called Kickstarter
(http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thehumanprojectapp/the-human-project-app.), offers a starting point from which to think about and begin to answer the biggest questions of our time: What are the really big issues, the ones that impact the survival and development of the human race? How do we organize to solve them?”
Erika and Anna work as management consultants to global companies, and small and medium-sized governments. Their work has given them insight into the kind of thinking needed to address global-scale issues. They have spent the past several years researching the “big issues” on behalf of their clients and noticed that there was not yet an integrated overview that took all of these challenges into account—there was no master list of the issues that impact the survival and development of the species as a whole—and that nobody ultimately owned the really big problems. No one was on the hook for them. So they decided to do something about it.
In their framework, there are many issues that many of us have thought of. There are some that you may have never heard of. The Human Project is proposing a way to bring all of these concerns to the table and look at them in light of each other. More important to the future of us humans than all these ‘problems’ put together, is the kind of thinking required in order to work toward solving them - this is the vision that The Human Project proposes to help us develop.
