Movies UK http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/19022008/5/cinema-s-swe… A Stockport postman was thrown out of his local cinema for bringing in his own supply of sweets Cinemas make their money mainly from advertising revenue and confectionary. With Distributors taking a large percentage of box office sales (for Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace it was over 90%) the only way to ensure the doors stay open is to show an endless stream of adverts you have already seen on the telly and put a 5500% mark up on salted popcorn (yes, really). There are always posters to remind you that you are not allowed to bring in your own soft drinks and eatables but I never thought anyone would actually get kicked out of a cinema for doing so. My top tips would be; arrive ten minutes after the scheduled programme start time, wait until the lights go down before you start munching your contraband and (most importantly) avoid any cinema that needs security guards in the first place!»
